The Running of the Tubs

The Running of the Tubs logo on a still image from the race

project overview

The Stueart Pennington's World Championship Running of the Tubs is a yearly race in Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas. Participants decorate and customize bathtubs while working in teams to get their tub to the end of the track the fastest in order to become champions. There are also awards for different categories of tubs as well as the decorations each team applies. For this project, the design objectives were to redesign a brand identity and visual system, apply that system to various formats, communicate the event information clearly to the target audience, and organize information into a clear and recognizable hierarchy.

The curves of the thick, bold letters in the wordmark provide a fun, engaging style that reminds viewers of a bubble shape, while the tub and bubbles in the logo were applied across various merchandising opportunities to build brand awareness.
